Consider appointment of Chairman.

Minutes:

                CHAIRMAN

                With reference to paragraph 1 of the Minute of 21 June 2017, and although Councillor Hamilton was not present, it was agreed that a Chairman be appointed.  Councillor Scott proposed Councillor Brown as Chairman, to be reviewed in 12 months and this was unanimously agreed.

 

                DECISION

         AGREED that Councillor Brown be appointed as Chairman of the Jedburgh Common Good Fund Sub-Committee and that the appointment be reviewed in 12 months.

Consider a request for financialassistance received from the Rotary Club, Jedburgh.  (Copy application and accounts attached.)

 

Minutes:

                 APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

                 The Rotary Club of Jedburgh   

                 There had been circulated copies of an Application for Financial Assistance from the Rotary Club, Jedburgh in respect of the Birl ‘n’ Beer Festival scheduled to be held in the Jedburgh Town Hall utilising Murray’s Green and the bandstand on Saturday, 26 August 2017 between 12 noon and 8 p.m.   The event was aimed at attracting townsfolk and people from outwith while celebrating traditional music and real ales.  There would be traditional folk music and 12 real ales would be supplied by Local Brewers i.e. Born in the Borders, Tempest Brew Co. and Broughton Ales.  It was to be a ticketed event and they were on sale locally in High Street outlets, pubs and clubs with posters displayed in neighbouring towns.  As this was an inaugural event there were no sponsors, however Jed Events Committee had pledged to cover the costs of the Town Hall and Riverside Rock had also pledged a donation to the event.  Jedburgh Rotary Club were advancing working capital to purchase advertising, event glasses and the ales and any profits from the event would be distributed to local worthy causes.    

 

         DECISION

         AGREED:-

 

         (a)     to award a grant of £500 to the Rotary Club, Jedburgh in respect of the Birl ‘n’ Beer Festival to be held on Saturday, 26 August 2017.

 

         (b)    that the Rotary Club be made aware that the Common Good be considered as a last resort, when funding could not be secured for other sources.

 

The meeting closed at 9.40 a.m.
